The I-69 Connector is a proposed new-location, non-toll freeway that would provide an east-west connection between I-69C/US 281 and I-69E/US 77 in the Rio Grande Valley.
The proposed project examines a study area of approximately 400 square miles that includes several counties to potentially construct a highway on new location for approximately 25 miles with potential grade separation intersections at major crossroads. The project is intended to strengthen regional connectivity between the area's major north-south transportation corridors while addressing growing transportation demands across the region.
The CCRMA supports the Texas Department of Transportation's (TxDOT's) development of this regionally significant project due to its proposed connectivity across the Rio Grande Valley and into the northeastern Cameron County area.
Project Highlight
The I-69 Connector would provide an important new east-west transportation route for the Rio Grande Valley. The project is being evaluated to reduce traffic congestion, improve regional mobility and transportation network connectivity, accommodate future population growth, and travel demand, and provide an additional hurricane evacuation route.
Estado del proyecto
The project is currently being led and developed by TxDOT where it is undergoing the environmental review process. TxDOT submitted a Notice of Intent to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) in 2024 and completed project scoping meetings in 2025.
The EIS is being prepared to evaluate potential project alternatives and environmental impacts, incorporating information developed during the feasibility study as well as public and agency input.
