October 28, 2022 – Today we gathered to celebrate the continued progress of I-69 with the addition of two great milestones. This morning we joined our local and elected leaders for the celebration with the addition of 5.6 miles of I-69E to the Interstate Highway system in Kenedy and Willacy Counties. This afternoon we celebrated the signing of 2.5 miles of SH 550/I-169 in Cameron County.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), as part of the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991, is developing the I-69 System in Texas through a series of small, local-level projects. In Texas, the I-69 System will extend through various highways. As of today, over 220 miles of the I-69 System in Texas have been added. Once the highway sections have been upgraded to interstate standards the I-69 System will extend through Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Indiana, and Michigan, providing a new continuous interstate corridor connecting Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
The Cameron County Regional Mobility is honored to partake in this event with several Board Members and Staff present along with (but not limited to) Cameron County Leadership, the Texas Department of Transportation Executive Director / District Engineer, Governor Abbott’s Office, and members of the I-69 Alliance.
