PROVIDING INCREASED PEDESTRIAN MOBILITY AND REDUCING CORRIDOR CONGESTION<\/h4>\n

The Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority (CCRMA), in cooperation with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Cameron County, and the City of Brownsville, is proposing to widen and reconstruct Dana Avenue from FM 3248 to FM 802 in Cameron County, Texas. The existing road configuration lacks shoulders, adequate barriers on bridges, and turning lanes. Vehicles turning into existing residences, businesses, or schools must slow or stop in the travel lane, leading to possible unsafe turning movements and congestion. The existing project area does not contain accommodation for pedestrians or cyclists despite the presence of three schools within the project limits.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Project Highlight<\/h3>\n

The project is being developed to improve mobility and safety, reduce congestion, and provide pedestrian and bicyclist accommodations. In order to do provide those benefits, the project proposes widening and reconstructing 2.4 miles of Dana Avenue from a 24-foot rural road to a 56-foot rural road within a usual 80-foot-wide right of way. The proposed road would include two 12-foot travel lanes, a 12-foot continuous left turn lane, two 10-foot shoulders, a 10-foot shared use path for bicyclists and pedestrians, and a 6-foot-wide sidewalk.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
