South Padre Island stretches approximately 34 miles from the Port Mansfield Channel to Brazos Santiago Pass at its southern tip.<\/p>\n<p>The Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway (SH 100) serves as the sole roadway connection to and from South Padre Island, presenting safety and mobility challenges during emergency evacuations. The purpose of the South Padre Island Second Access Project is to improve mobility and enhance public safety during emergency evacuations to\/from the Texas mainland and South Padre Island.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-1964-1\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-1964-1-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-1964-1-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor panel-first-child\" data-index=\"1\" ><div class=\"status panel-widget-style panel-widget-style-for-1964-1-0-0\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<h3>Estado del proyecto<\/h3>\n<p>The project was placed on hold in December 2017. On Dec. 12, 2023, the Texas Transportation Commission approved its on-system designation through Minute Order 116614. TxDOT is now the project sponsor and is preparing a Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) as a non-tolled project.
